Sixth Meeting of the Conference of the Parties to the Rotterdam Convention

Summary of the outcomes

About 1,400 participants took part in the conference, which was held from 28 April to 10 May 2013, back to back with the ordinary meetings of the conferences of the parties to the Basel and Stockholm conventions, and the extraordinary meetings of the three conventions, including a high-level segment of ministers.

At its 6th meeting, the Conference of the Parties to the Rotterdam Convention adopted 16 decisions.

The main outcomes include the listing of four new chemicals (the pesticide azinphos-methyl and the industrial chemicals PentaBDE, OctaBDE and PFOS) to Annex III of the Convention. Other major decisions concern the Programme of Work including a budget for the biennium 2014/15, a programme for the delivery of Technical Assistance and a number of measures to foster the implementation of the Convention and to enhance the exchange information on exports and export notifications.

Election of officers

At its sixth meeting, the Conferences of the Parties (COP) to the Rotterdam Convention elected a new Bureau and nominated new members of the Chemical Review Committee.
