Seventh Meeting of the Conference of the Parties to the Rotterdam Convention

Summary of outcomes: About 1,200 participants took part in the Conference, which was held from 4 to 15 May 2015, back-to-back with the twelfth meeting of the Conference of the Parties to the Basel Convention (BC COP-12) and the seventh meeting of the Conference of the Parties to the Stockholm Convention (SC COP-7). The meetings included joint sessions among two or three of the conferences of the parties on joint issues. The theme for the meetings was ‘From science to action, working for a safer tomorrow’.

The  seventh meeting of the Conference of the Parties to the Rotterdam Convention adopted 15 decisions, including six identical ones for the three meetings of the conference of the parties. Some of the main outcomes of the Conference include the listing of methamidophos to Annex III to the Convention and the establishment of intersessional work to be undertaken on the effectiveness of the process for listing chemicals, Furthermore, substantive progress was made on the negotiations of a compliance mechanism for the Convention.
