Regional meeting to review and pilot test a resources and information toolkit to enchance scientifically sound decision making on hazardous chemicals in developing countries

Organizers

The workshop was organized by the Secretariat of the Rotterdam Convention with the help of Committee of Environmental Protection of the Republic of Tajikistan and close collaboration with the FAO country office in Tajikistan.

Workshop Objectives

The 2 days high-level workshop was intended to:

  • Familiarize with and leverage the ratification process necessary for Tajikistan to become a Party of both Rotterdam and Basel Conventions in the near future;
  • Raise awareness of the importance of the Rotterdam and Basel Conventions and their common objectives, namely to protect human health and environment. The workshop also addressed a lifecycle approach to the management of hazardous chemicals and wastes including their trade, use and disposal.

Target Audience

Focal points of the Stockholm Convention, Representatives of the Ministries of Agriculture, Health and Environment, Customs, Committee of Environment Protection, NGOs and other stakeholders.
