Outcome

The National consultations on the accession to the Rotterdam Convention was attended by 70 participants representing the Ministry of Health, Ministry of Natural Resources and Environmental Protection, Ministry of Emergencies, Customs Authorities, research institutes and the chemical industry.

Participants agreed that the ratification of the Rotterdam Convention is needed for the Republic of Belarus to ensure protection of human health and the environment, strengthen national chemicals safety, and facilitate trade of chemicals. It was agreed that a road plan for the accession to the Rotterdam Convention will be developed and legal steps will be undertaken to start the access process.
