Sub-regional workshop on training and strengthening collaboration between DNAs on the implementation of the Rotterdam Convention in Burundi, Cameroon, Republic of the Congo and Gabon

The secretariat of the Rotterdam Convention in collaboration with FAO office in Cameroon and the FAO Sub regional office for Central Africa.




Workshop Objectives

  1. To train all participants on key obligations of the Rotterdam Convention;
  2. To strengthen collaboration between DNAs and knowledge base by sharing experiences of Belgium DNA and representative of European Chemical Agency (ECHA);
  3. Update national action plan on implementation of the Rotterdam Convention.

Target Audience

  1. The Designated National Authorities from Burundi , Cameroon, Republic of the Congo and Gabon;
  2. Key departments in charge of chemicals management and focal points of Basel and Stockholm conventions of Cameroon.

Outcome

The meeting brought together twenty-five participants from four central African countries ( Burundi, Cameroon, Republic of the Congo and Gabon) representing Designated National Authorities ( DNAs) and key stakeholders from (Ministries of Agriculture, Environment, Economy and trade, Customs, NGOs, Focal points to the Basel and Stockholm conventions, Belgium DNA and representative of European Chemicals Agency (ECHA).

The meeting strengthened regional cooperation and collaboration among DNAs. It provided parties with technical assistance to follow up on their obligations under the Rotterdam Convention and gave an opportunity to share experiences between DNAs from developing countries and developed country. It also allowed the representative of European Chemicals Agency (ECHA) to explain the process of explicit consent on chemicals export from European Union.
