Outcome

The participating countries were better informed about benefits, key players, obligations and opportunities provided by the Rotterdam Convention. Through group works and discussions in plenary, participants got familiar with the procedures to comply with them, putting emphasis on identifying gaps and challenges faced by the 15 countries (13 are party to the Rotterdam Convention) in meeting particular obligations under the Convention, such as preparation and submission of notifications of Final Regulatory Actions (FRA) under Article 5 and taking advantage of the opportunity in preparing and submitting proposals for Severely Hazardous Pesticide Formulations (SHPF) under Article 6. Participants were trained on identification of potential HHPs, using their national registers of pesticides, risk management and on the protocols for the field surveys to assess use conditions of HHPs. (using the FAO Pesticide Registration Toolkit to facilitate some aspects of the HHP identification & management process.)
