Workshop Context/Highlights
The Secretariat of the Rotterdam Convention is organizing a workshop (90-minutes online session and three-days in-person session) to orient incoming and continuing members of the Chemical Review Committee.
Workshop Objectives
- To enable CRC members to better understand the mandate and operational procedures of the Committee.
- To provide a platform for incoming and continuing members to exchange experiences and transfer knowledge related to the work of the Committee.
- To facilitate detailed discussions and hands-on application of the review criteria used by the Committee in undertaking its work.

Online session (17 March 2026)
- Introduction to the mandate and operational procedures of the Chemical Review Committee
- Introduction to Annex II of the Rotterdam Convention, with additional emphasis on risk evaluation
- Introduction to Annex IV of the Rotterdam Convention
In-person session (Day 1)
- Introduction to the Committee’s work and chairing of CRC meetings
- Application of Annex II criteria (practice with case studies in Break out Groups)
In-person session (Day 2)
- Recap of Annex IV (theory)
- Application of Annex IV criteria (practice with case studies in Break out Groups)
In-person session (Day 3)
- Introduction to preparation of draft Decision Guidance Documents
- Introduction to CRC intersessional task group work
- Preparation for and effective participation in CRC meetings (understanding procedures and documents)
