Highlights: The Rotterdam Convention on the Prior Informed Consent Procedure (PIC) for Certain Hazardous Chemicals and Pesticides in International Trade is a legally binding multilateral environmental agreement that entered into force in 2004. As of May 2026, the Convention has 168 Parties. The objective of the Convention is to promote shared responsibility and cooperative efforts among Parties in the international trade of certain hazardous chemicals in order to protect human health and the environment from potential harm, and to contribute to the environmentally sound use of those hazardous chemicals.
Funded by the European Union, the workshop will strengthen capacities for conducting risk evaluations, preparing and submitting notifications of final regulatory action, preparing proposals for the listing of severely hazardous pesticide formulations, improving the submission of import responses, and enhancing implementation of the Rotterdam Convention at the national level.
Target audience: The workshop targets relevant government representatives from developing countries and countries with economies in transition in the Asia PIC region, namely Cambodia, China, Democratic People's Republic of Korea, India, Indonesia, Iran (Islamic Republic of), Kazakhstan, Lao People's Democratic Republic, Malaysia, Maldives, Mongolia, Nepal, Pakistan, Philippines, Sri Lanka, Thailand and Viet Nam.

Meeting objectives: The primary objective of this workshop is to strengthen the targeted Parties’ capacities for risk evaluations, submission of notifications of final regulatory action and implementation of the Rotterdam Convention.
