National Legislation

Parties to the Rotterdam Convention adopt national legislation and other regulatory measures to implement and enforce the provisions of the Convention.

The Conference of the Parties to the Rotterdam Convention encouraged Parties to provide the Secretariat with texts of national legislation and other measures adopted by them to implement the Convention (Decision RC-7/1). It further requested the Secretariat to make these texts available to Parties and other interested stakeholders in a user-friendly format, with the aim of assisting Parties in preparing notifications of final regulatory action amongst other things.

This section contains the texts of national legislation and other regulatory measures that have been transmitted to the Secretariat by Parties following this request.

Some of the texts are only available in the national language of the Party concerned. It is also noted that the database does not purport to contain a complete set of national implementation legislation from all the Parties to the Convention. The Secretariat shall update and amend the collection as it receives new texts of legislation and/or other measures from Parties.

Further information on national regulatory measures with regard to specific chemicals is also available on import responses and notifications of final regulatory action submitted by Parties. A compilation of country specific information can also be accessed under country profiles.
