Funding Considerations

The Secretariat depends on the availability of financial resources for the implementation of the programme of work for technical assistance.

These originate from voluntary contributions from countries into the Convention’s Voluntary Trust Fund. Activities can be implemented if sufficient resources are received from donors.

Resources contributed into the Voluntary Trust Fund consist of earmarked funding, non-earmarked funding and in-kind contributions (through cooperation with other partners such as FAO, SAICM, the Basel and Stockholm Conventions, etc.).

Countries can also seek support from a range of multilateral and bilateral donors and funding sources to support the objectives of the Rotterdam Convention including, among others, the SAICM’s Quick Start Programme Trust Fund and the GEF.
