National consultation and training workshop on the Rotterdam Convention and fostering collaboration of DNAs

Outcomes

  • The training workshop served to increase understanding of the procedures and obligations of the Rotterdam Convention. Representatives of the 3 DNAs and from other relevant government agencies agreed that additional training will be necessary to make further progress and effectively respond to the obligations under the Convention
  • DNAs committed to review the current implementation status and prepare information to update import and export responses, as appropriate.
  • The National Consultation meeting on the implementation of the Rotterdam Convention resulted in a review of the national action plan, and also helped to identify gaps, priorities and concrete recommendations for its update. The discussion also contributed to evaluating existing management and regulatory measures for pesticide registration at the national level.
  • Technical assistance needs and proposals to review and update the current pesticide legislation were discussed and communicated to the Secretariat of the Convention.
