Eighteenth meeting of the Chemical Review Committee (CRC.18)

Rome, Italy, September or October 2022 (tentative)

Venue: FAO Headquarters, Viale delle Terme di Caracalla, 00153 Rome, Italy.

The dates and location of the eighteenth meeting of the Chemical Review Committee are subject to confirmation, in consultation with the Bureau of the Chemical Review Committee, taking into account the development of the global coronavirus disease (COVID-19) pandemic situation.

Overview

The eighteenth meeting of the Chemical Review Committee of the Rotterdam Convention is tentatively scheduled to take place in September or October 2022, back to back with the eighteenth meeting of the Persistent Organic Pollutants Review Committee of the Stockholm Convention.

Due to a high workload of notifications of final regulatory action to be reviewed by the Chemical Review Committee, the Bureau decided to prioritize the intersessional work leading up to the Committee’s eighteenth meeting. The intersessional work focuses on additional notifications of final regulatory actions for chemicals that are currently already under consideration by the Committee.

This intersessional work is being advanced to February and May 2022, taking into account that the terms of office for 17 of the Committee’s members have been extended until the closure of the tenth meeting of the Conference of the Parties in June 2022. As such, there would not be sufficient time between this date and the meeting of the Committee to effectively carry out the intersessional work.

The notifications for which intersessional work is being conducted between February and May 2022 are as follows:

Candidate chemicals Notifying Party Published in PIC Circular
Carbaryl

LII (December 2020)

These notifications could then be considered by the Committee at its eighteenth meeting, together with notifications whose consideration has not been initiated or completed at the seventeenth meeting due to timing reasons. Additional notifications of final regulatory action awaiting review by the Chemical Review Committee will be considered at a future meeting of the Committee.

Information about the final dates, venue and agenda for the Committee’s eighteenth meeting and final meeting documents will be provided on this webpage in due time. Unedited advance versions of the meeting documents for the intersessional work and draft intersessional task group reports will be made available on the “Task Groups” webpage.
